Campaign on sustainable lifestyles

Sustainable Development and therefore climate change is one of the main themes that were chosen by our highest decision making body, the World Assembly of IMCS held in August 2015, to work on for the next four years. Our members, emerged the necessity of the popularization of the encyclical of Pope Francis Laudato Si, as a great document which explains the environmental challenges and addresses the responsibility of the whole humanity in “the care of our common home”. Based on the call of our members to act against climate change, the international team of IMCS developed a communication Campaign “Mercy for our Common Home”. World Youth Day was a great opportunity to initiate this campaign and reach hundreds of international youth at the same time. This activity was conducted under the Youth Festival of the WYD as well as during our daily presence in the Vocation Forum where we had our space and stand. Starting from there, this campaign took part in many countries in different continent and reached directly more than 4000 young people. This campaign of IMCS Pax Romana is part of Global Campaign of CIDSE “Change for the Planet – Care for the People” wich collaborate for the implementation of the activity in Poland and still in contact with the movement for more exchanges. The methods of communication that is used for this campaign want itself very interactive so that all the participant express themselves as much as possible. The animators should encourage the participation of the youth by initiating debates and exchange on the issue of ecological crisis so that everybody understands the current challenges by concrete examples happening around the world. That means for the animators to have a background on understanding the issue (reading especially Laudato Si and if possible the SDGs). This guideline aims to give the necessary understanding elements to make the campaign successful and achieve its objectives.

  1. popularize the ideas developed in Laudato Si;
  2. encourage young pilgrims to discuss these ideas;
  3. show young people the severity of the challenges of our time and their responsibility to deal with these challenges;
  4. encourage the young people to take positive resolutions (commitments) in terms of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s);
  5. offer free tools to youth so that they can in turn disseminate these ideas to others in their communities;
